6 Healthy Halloween Trays, PALEO, SCD
Trick or treat. Be so sweet. Give me something good to eat!
Avocado Ranch Dressing Dip, PALEO, SCD
Avocado Ranch Dressing Dip, PALEO, SCD
Ingredients
- 1 whole avocado
- 5 Tbsp (can go up to 1/2 c) filtered water (NOTE: Adjust to desired thickness level be it dressing or dip)
- 1/4 c Mark Sisson’s Primal Kitchen Mayo with Avocado Oil (NOTE: This is SCD legal according to Dr. Suskind NIMBAL SCD PRODUCE study materials. Alternatively, your homemade mayo, SCD yogurt, or if not strict SCD, a plain good quality Greek yogurt, can be substituted. Often, I use 1 Tbsp SCD yogurt with 3 Tbsp Primal!)
- 2 small garlic cloves
- 3 1/2 Tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 tsp SCD Dijon mustard (see recipe here). It is the best, AND it is a real live ferment!!! Alternatively, use Annie’ s Organic Dijon Mustard or Trader Joe’s Deli Style Mustard (both are listed on Dr. Suskind's NIMBAL SCD PRODUCE study materials)
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1/8 tsp pepper
- 1/4 tsp garlic granules
- 1/4 tsp onion granules
- 1 Tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tsp dried)
- 1/4 tsp dried dill weed
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients except for parsley and dill weed in a Ninja and whip it well.
- Add parsley and dill weed last and pulse a few times!
If you want to serve cheese, consider using lactose-free cheeses, such as those used in the SCD diet (see the post here)
INCREASE VEGS TO INCREASE the METABOLITE called BUTYRATE (a microbiome beastie byproduct)!
Just look at the DISEASES that can benefit by increasing vegetable fiber to INCREASE the butyrate byproduct of our gut microbiome: Insulin resistance in the brain and body, metabolic disorders, stroke, Alzheimer’s, autism, psychological disorders, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, mitrochondrial encephalopathy, and adenoleukodystropy! This stuff you can’t make up ⇒ It’s published in a 2017 study ⇒ Read it at [Bourassa et al 2017]! Mostly, this is all about INCREASING vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, carotenoids, over 4,000 phytochemicals… like flavonoids, polyphenols, catechins, and anthcycanidines. Simply put, your body doesn’t run on these deficiencies. EAT REAL FOOD, THAT IS WHERE REAL CHANGE OCCURS, not supplements (but TAKE a decent multivitamin which like a backup insurance policy). Best said, increasing vegetables is:
“Providing your cells what they need and taking away that which interferes with their proper function.” – Dr. Terry Wahls
I don’t write a lot about toxin loads but should!
Toxins affect all of us. The fungicide thiabendazole goes through apple skin 4 TIMES DEEPER than phosmet, the pesticide.[ScienceDaily, 2017] These crazy coatings ⇒They’re why I no longer let lemons or limes soak in my beverages, nor will I use peels in recipes! This study by UC Davis, [Vogt et al, 2012] found that for children, the cumulative toxin load in ALL 364 children evaluated for 11 food based toxins in 44 foods, exceeded cancer benchmark levels for:
- arsenic,
- dieldrin,
- DDE (a DDT metabolite), and
- dioxins, AND
10% exceeded mercury levels!
In addition, for preschool aged children 2-4 years, OVER 95% exceeded cancer benchmark levels for acrylamide (the brown on chips, bread, baked goods…) and they fared worse than the 5—7 yr age group.
It is really time to ditch the processed foods and ramp up vegetables and fruits ⇒ use the EWG Dirty/Clean list guidelines for organic! And a BETTER WAY TO WASH THEM is with a 15 minute soak in water having a small handful of baking soda for 15 minutes followed by a rub and rinse!
There is magic in the night when pumpkins glow by moonlight!
Have fun and be safe! Best in health through awareness,
